Jobs & Economic Development
Committee Description
Typical issues include proposals for housing, commercial and industrial projects and their financing, whether by Metro issued bonds, by tax increment finance, Metro loans or other financing instrument. This committee also recommends neighborhood revitalization program plans proposed by neighborhoods for use of state and federally mandated funds and related activities. This committee also considers disposition of tax-forfeited properties in the City; lot divisions; setting the City's budget for Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds received through the Consolidated Plan and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The Committee deals with applications for state, federal and private grants related to economic development in the City, such as pollution clean-up grants for industrial sites and Enterprise Community grants. It also considers condemnation of property; funding for demolition of boarded buildings in the City.
