Many thousands of volunteers will fan out across Metro Louisville for the Brightside Community-wide Cleanup on Saturday. In District 1, Councilwoman Attica Scott will join many residents in taking the time to remove, rake up or clean up trash and garbage from area sidewalks, streets and green spaces.
“The Chickasaw Federation needs every volunteer it can find to help us out,” says Scott. “We have four key areas we want cleaned before the weekend is over. I am looking forward to meeting people as we work together to help keep our community clean.”
Volunteers who would like to join the effort should gather at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 4432 Greenwood Avenue beginning at 9:00am.
The Chickasaw Federation has four cleanup goals on Saturday morning: Chickasaw Park, Flaget Field, Cecil & Greenwood and I-264 West at the Dumesnil Exit. Garbage bags, gloves and t-shirts will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring brooms and rakes if they have them handy. The cleanup will last from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
Councilwoman Scott says even if you don’t join a group at one of the locations, residents can pitch in on their own.
“We want to challenge everyone to clean up their yard and their property,” says Scott. “If you have noticed some trash on the street corner and wondered when will somebody come and pick that up, this Saturday would be the best chance to take some time and a handy trash can and make a difference.”
Drinks and refreshments will be on hand for the volunteers. Lunch will be served at the Westwood Presbyterian Church when the cleanup is over.
