Louisville – This Saturday, volunteers all across the Commonwealth of Kentucky will take time to help 15 domestic violence shelters by collecting goods and funds to help those the shelters serve.
In Metro Louisville, Councilwoman Attica Scott (D-1) and Councilman David James (D-6) will join volunteers at the Kroger at 28th Broadway to help the Center for Women and Families as they participate in “Shop and Share Day.”
“This is a worthwhile effort and I hope when people go shopping this weekend they will help us out with a donation,” says Scott. “These shelters are a new beginning for the victims of domestic violence.”
Last year, volunteers collected over $500,000 in items for the Center for Women and Families.
“Hopefully, we will be able to match and exceed last year’s results,” said James. “It is important the victims of domestic violence who use these shelters get our help and support.”
“Shop and Share Day” is a joint initiative of First Lady Jane Beshear’s Office, the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association, Kroger, Food City, the Kentucky Commission on Women, the General Federation of Women’s Club, the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, the Girls Scouts of Wilderness Road Council and the Kentucky Drug Court
Scott and James will be at Kroger beginning at 10:00am.
“Shop and Share Day” welcomes any one or any group to volunteer for a collection shift. To sign up to volunteer go to: www.surverymoney.com/2JNN22R
