Louisville – The Labor Day Picnic at Lake Dreamland Park will be an important event this year thanks to Councilwoman Attica Scott (D-1). During the event, a special rededication ceremony will be held in memoriam for a beloved teenager who meant so much too so many people.
“I want residents in Lake Dreamland to know that they matter,” said Scott. “This Labor Day we want to correct an unfortunate situation by honoring the memory of someone who was deeply loved by family and friends.”
Tommy Maddox was a Western High School Student who was killed in an ATV accident in July 1998. He was a cadet volunteer for the Lake Dreamland Fire Department. The community was devastated over the loss and that year a special tree was planted in his honor. In the fall of last year though, the tree was accidentally destroyed by a Metro Government agency doing work in the area.
Councilwoman Scott in partnership with the Mayor’s office requested that another tree provided by Metro Parks be planted to replace the destroyed tree.
“While we celebrate working families on Labor Day, I want to also honor the memory of a teenager who was taken too soon from his family and his community,” says Scott.
The picnic will begin at 1:00pm with Lake Dreamland Fire Department is providing hot dogs, buns and sodas. Chief Freddie George will personally be firing up the grill. Southwest Church will provide additional refreshments. Residents are asked to bring their lawn chairs and water. Music will be provided by the Memphis Red Hots from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
“District 1 is a very diverse area and the people of Lake Dreamland and Cane Run Road area are just as dedicated as the people of Parkland, Chaickasaw and Park DuValle when it comes to community unity. I hope everyone will come out and have a great time,” says Scott.
