The diversity of the Newburg Community will be highlighted in this year’s 2011 Newburg Days celebration set for August 26th through the 28th. The 2011 theme is “Different People, One Community.”
“Metro Louisville is unique in the makeup of all its neighborhoods and communities,” says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2). “We decided this year, to focus on how our area is made up of different people and cultures and how we work together for the betterment of all.”
This year Newburg Days features many of the events people have come to enjoy. On Friday night, “Newburg Idol” will present local amateur talent in the age range from 16 to 25. There will be judges and a $300 grand prize.
Those who are interested should call 574-1102. No professionals will be allowed to sign up for the competition which will get underway at 7:00pm and end at 9:00pm. The talent contest will be held on the main stage at Petersburg Park.
On Saturday, everyone is invited to the Community Breakfast and Parade on Saturday, August 26th. The breakfast will be held at Newburg Middle School from 8:00am until 10:00am.
The Community Parade will begin lining up in the parking lot of the Forest Tabernacle Baptist Church, 4205 East Indian Trail. The parade is tentatively set to begin at 12:00pm. Events in Petersburg Park begin at 11am -- there will be live entertainment throughout the day.
The Festival will wrap up on Sunday with a Gospel Concert from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and then fireworks at dusk.
