Biography

Mary C. Woolridge was elected to the first Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Council in November 2002. Woolridge proudly represents six neighborhoods: Algonquin, California, Hallmark, Park Duvalle, Parkland, Park Hill and the City of Shively.

Prior to becoming a member of the Metro Council, she served in the Ninth Ward office of the Board of Aldermen for six years. In this capacity she gained extensive knowledge of government operations, administrative expertise in resolving constituent needs and a love for serving the community. She was an active member of the Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, working primarily on environmental issues. She is a 30-year member of the Hallmark Association and has served the group as community liaison. She has been a Block Watch captain and a member of the California Federation of Block Clubs.

Mary Woolridge is a proud graduate of Central High School and attended Jefferson Community and Spencerian Colleges majoring in accounting. She is an active member of Southern Star Baptist Church. She has been married to her husband Jerry for 45 years. They have one son Donald, and three grand children.

Councilwoman Woolridge has been honored by the following organizations: Butler High School 50th Year Anniversary Committee, Park Duvalle Community Health, JCPS (Champion for Children), Volunteers of America, Youth Alive, Inc., Community Builders, A Better Life, Inc, Project One and the Coalition for the Homeless. She also has a Rosie the Riveter award. In 2005 the Louisville Defender Newspaper named her Professional Woman of the year. She is a recipient of the Pride Inc. Delahanty, Shobe, Tucker Humanitarian Award. In 2007 she as featured in Who’s Who In Louisville.

Her memberships include the National League of Cities, the Kentucky Black Caucus of Locally Elected Officials (KBC-LEO) and the Metropolitan Housing Coalition. She was designated as an Honorary Co-Chair of the Kentucky African American Heritage Grand Opening Planning Committee. She is on the Rohm & Hass Community Advisory Council and is a member of the Elder Serve/Focal Point Advisory Group. She also belongs to the Shively Democratic Club and is on the organization’s Board. She serves on the Board of H. Temple Spears Senior Housing and is an Honorary Member of the Juneteenth Legacy Theatre Board.

Councilwoman Woolridge is Chair of the Health and Human Services committee Metro Council. She also serves on the Budget and Public Safety Committees. Other government appointments include the All Hazards Mitigation Advisory Committee and the Mayor’s Air Quality Task Force.
