Louisville – Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton is inviting everyone to a special free celebration on Saturday, May 10th, when “Shakespeare in the Parks” brings Hamlet to Shawnee Park.

“This will help us begin another spring and summer season of great fun and entertainment in Shawnee Park,” says Hamilton. “This year we are helping Kentucky Shakespeare celebrate the Bard’s 450th birthday with this special free presentation.”

Earlier this year, Kentucky Shakespeare’s began its first ever tour of productions in selective Louisville Parks. Hamilton says this is another way to bring the arts to everyone all over Louisville Metro.

For 53 years, Kentucky Shakespeare, a not-for-profit charitable organization, professional theatre company, and the oldest free Shakespeare Festival in the United States has been offering free Shakespeare in Central Park in Old Louisville during the summer.

“Shakespeare in the Parks” will bring a 90 minute, eight actor version of Hamlet beginning at 12:00pm at the Shawnee Amphitheater. Metro Parks will provide some picnic tables, but also residents should also feel free to bring food, chairs, blankets, and join others in experiencing one of the Bard’s greatest works in a beautiful surrounding.

Councilwoman Hamilton used $2,000 in District 5 Neighborhood Development Funds for this free presentation.

“So bring family and friends and enjoy a classic in literature but also the beauty of Shawnee Park,” says Hamilton.
