Councilwoman Hamilton announces Community Service Day and encourages District 5 residents to volunte
This coming Saturday, volunteers from all over the West Louisville area will fan out across a specific area of District 5 with the goal of helping their community with the aid of rakes, shovels, trash bags, paint brushes and the determination to make a difference. Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) and Brightside will partner with the YMCA’s Black Achievers Program for a special Community Service Day on September 27th and the call is going out for additional volunteers.

Councilwoman Hamilton to attend special performance of Youth Performing Arts Summer Camp
Summer camp is a place where many kids get the chance to have fun while learning about nature, science or sports. This year, one summer camp offered about 50 low income students the opportunity to do something they have never had the chance to do: enhance artistic skills. Tonight, Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) will have a front row seat at the Youth Performing Arts Showcase, a special performance of the Youth Performing Arts Summer Camp which concludes a two week education effort in the arts.

Two local books, by two different sets of authors, are creating a buzz around Metro Louisville detailing the history of one neighborhood and the life experiences of students in West Louisville.Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) and the District 5 Neighborhood Advisory Committee will host a reading and book signing for the authors of “Our Shawnee” and “Recipes & Recollections from the Homes Samuel A. Some 20 students in Metro Louisville will have the chance to venture into space in July with the hope that they might become future scientists or develop a lifelong love of science. Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) is partnering with the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium to host a week long, full day Space Engineering Camp from July 21st until July 25th for students in grades 7 thru 9.
