In his first spring cleanup as Councilman, David James is putting out the call for volunteers for the community wide Brightside Cleanup in District 6 on March 26th.
“We have many groups who have organized cleanups of alleys, lots and other areas throughout Old Louisville, the California Neighborhood and U of L,” says James. “I will be joining them as we work to keep our neighborhoods clean.”
The Councilman will join a group of volunteers at 9:00am at Wheatley Elementary in the California Neighborhood. The group plans to focus its attention in the area surrounding the school on Gallagher and West St. Catherine Streets. The cleanup work also includes the Dixie Highway strip around West St. Catherine.
Coffee and doughnuts will be provided before the cleanup gets under way.
“It is important that areas around our schools are free of trash and garbage. It builds pride,” says James. “We also know of three other areas that could use any able bodied volunteers who would like to come out and lend a hand,” says James.
Those three areas include 15th Street stretch between Broadway and Hill,
South Central Park extending to Lillian and Colorado Ave and the square area between Hill, 2nd, Floyd, and Cardinal Blvd.
The District 6 office is also aware of other organized teams who will be out in force on March 26th. Councilman James encourages anyone who lives nearby any of these locations to come help out:
Central Park
7th-8th St. KY and Broadway
West Oaks, 4th-6th, Garvin Place
