Louisville – Keep an eye out for something new in District 9 that will help the environment.
On Tuesday, Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9) participated in an unveiling of three new permanent recycling containers. The new permanent orange recycling containers were placed alongside trash cans on District 9 streets to give people the option of recycling on the go.
“With the success we have seen in all of our recycling programs, I am constantly looking for new ways to make our community more sustainable, and I am excited that we now have the option for recycling on Frankfort Avenue and Story Avenue,” said Ward-Pugh. “I appreciate River Metal Recycling’s generous donation and their ongoing partnership with the Green Triangle, the 9th District’s Sustainability Initiative.”
The three new permanent recycling containers have been installed next to trash cans in the following locations: in front of the former Boys and Girls Club at 1519 Story Avenue, Carmichael’s Bookstore at 2720 Frankfort Avenue, and at the TARC Bus Stop in the 2200 block of Frankfort Avenue Frankfort Avenue between the railroad tracks and Caffe Classico.
Now, when people are out and about, they have the option of recycling items rather than throwing them in the trash or taking them home to recycle. The same things that can be recycled at home can now be recycled on street: paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, steel and tin cans, and cardboard.
“We hope to change the mindset of the runner or walker who instinctively thinks to throw a bottle or can at a trash bin,” said Ward-Pugh. “These will be great additions for the shopper or those enjoying the FAT Friday Trolley Hop and other neighborhood events.”
