Louisville – Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh is praising the volunteer commitment of the North American Youth Congress (NAYC) as its members will spend a day cleaning up various areas of the city including District 9.
NAYC is holding a conference in Metro Louisville this week. Project 22:39 is a service project to be held throughout the city.
“It is inspiring to see the willingness of young people giving back to a community,” says Ward-Pugh. “If we have any hope of maintaining our environment and our communities, we must rely on this willingness of young people to be a part of what has been started by others.”
The NAYC members of will spend Friday afternoon on August 9th cleaning up the area of River Road and Frankfort Avenue where there has already been community work on “The Doorway to the Avenue” in the past year. The group will be cleaning up trash and removing invasive species of plants.
Another group of young people will be working in nearby Eva Bandman Park.
Project 22:39 is a Biblical reference that NAYC endeavors to follow.
“I know this will be a special part for many at the conference,” says Ward-Pugh. “I know our community, which strives to be a compassionate city, will make them welcome and appreciate the help they will offer.”
