Area Leaders Meet to Discuss District 11 Issues and Concerns

On Saturday, January 20, neighborhood leaders met at St. Michael Orthodox Church to discuss issues and concerns affecting their communities. Topics included concerns over crime and public safety, speeding, property maintenance, and drainage. Guest speakers included Cynthia Knapek (Director of Operation Brightside), William Schreck (Director of the Department of Codes and Regulations), and Bud Schardein (Executive Director of the Metropolitan Sewer District.)

Other panelists included Sergeant Don George and Officer Leonard from the Louisville Metro Police Department, Walter Munday from the Department of Neighborhoods, Marilyn Givan from Metro Call, and Janet Jernigan from Just Solutions Mediation Services.

Neighborhoods represented included Bradford Grove, Breckenridge Estates, Breckenridge Estates East, Buechel Terrace, Casa Bella Condominiums, Four Seasons, Hunsinger Gardens Patio Home Association, Hurstbourne Springs, Kort Springs, Lodge Condominium Block Watch, and the Southern Avenue Neighborhood Association.

Commenting on the meeting, Steve O'Neil with the Breckenridge Estates Neighborhood Association said, "It was very informative and very helpful to have some personal interaction with the individuals responsible for some of the important services we rely on here in Metro Louisville. We all expect certain services and support from our various public agencies, but I gained a better appreciation of the processes and protocols used by those agencies and the challenges they face in getting things done."
