Kramer and Engel to Sponsor "S.P.O.T." Clinic on February 17

Councilman Kramer and Councilman Robin Engel (District 22) are sponsoring the Louisville Metro Animal Services’ mobile medical and adoption unit, S.P.O.T. (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today)for their constituents as announced below:

Metro Animal Services’ staff veterinarian and veterinary technician will administer rabies vaccines at discounted prices and issue on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The rabies and licensing packages will cost $17 for owners of altered pets and $43 for residents with unaltered pets. Proof of spay/neuter must be provided for owners to receive a discount on their licenses. Newly licensed intact animals must apply for an Intact Animal Permit for $50. "MeetYour Metro Council Representative" Night to be held on February 19

On Monday, February 19, Councilman Kramer and Councilman Stuart Benson (District 20) will be at the Jeffersontown Library to answer questions and discuss issues related to small business in this area. Small business owners and prospective owners are invited to stop in between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Library is at 10635 Watterson Trail; the phone number is 267-5713.
Internet Safety Seminar to be held on February 28
Councilman Doug Hawkins (District 25) will sponsor a free internet safety seminar on Wednesday, February 28 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This seminar will be held at the Jefferson Community & Technical College, Southwest Campus Auditorium (1000 Community College Drive.) Hawkins and Innovative Productivity, Inc. have partnered with Dr. Tony Sheppard, a specialist in child psychology, to host a two-hour seminar on internet safety. FBI Special Agent David Beyer will also speak on this issue. Case studies from Metro Louisville will be illustrated to demonstrate real-life threats.

2007 Homeowners Association Trainings

Strong neighborhoods are an important aspect of a thriving community. The Department of Neighborhoods is offering workshops meant to focus on the inner workings of your association and strengthen your homeowners association.
February 20 Transitioning Associations from Developers to Homeowners
6 - 8:30 p.m. Metro United Way, 334 W. Broadway
Reviews how homeowner boards are elected, what information homeowners should obtain from developers and basic organizational tips for setting up new associations. Additional discussions will address situational problems, such as communication breakdowns and a developer’s failure to complete projects. February 27 Building the Organization 6 - 8:30 p.m. 100th Division, 3600 Century Division Way (Cannons Ln. north of Dutchmans Ln.)
Discusses promoting resident involvement and support of the association, recruiting board members, building the organization through community activities, creating websites and newsletters, and how to deal with association/resident conflict.
March 6 Understanding, Enforcing and Amending Your Deed of Restrictions

Discusses basic provisions common in deeds of restrictions, process of collecting mandatory dues, descriptions of common methods of enforcement, such as letters, liens and court actions, and when and how to amend the deed of restrictions. March 13 Financial Obligations and Good Management

March 3 Seminar will Address Lymphedema

The Lymphedema Support Group of Louisville will hold an educational seminar about this chronic, progressive disease on March 3, 2007 from 9 am to 3 pm. This event will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church located at 2233 Woodbourne Avenue. This day will include educational talks by area doctors. Suppliers of various garments will also be present that may be beneficial in patient treatment. A light lunch will be served.
Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of lymph fluid in the tissue area causing swelling in the affected area, most often the extremities (arms and legs). It can also occur in the face, neck, abdomen, or genitals. March 6 is National Lymphedema Awareness Day. Your support helped make last year's event a great success and we want to say thank you. We are in need of your support again this year, for our door prizes, and hope we can count on you. All sponsors names will be displayed the day of our event.

Youth Opportunity Showcase Planned for Saturday, February 17

144 Sixth Street (between Main and River Road)Louisville teens are invited to apply for summer jobs and find out about opportunities for job training, community service, education, and recreation.
Representatives from Metro Parks, Library Services, Public Health, the Community Action Partnership, TARC, Office of Youth Development, and the Belle of Louisville will be present. Kentucky Kingdom, Centerplate Catering, Yum! Brands, UPS, and Papa John's will be on hand as well.

Committee Meetings
Councilman Kramer serves as the Chairman of the Public Safety Committee. He is also a member of the Budget Committee, Government Administration Committee, and Committee on Committees. In addition, Kramer serves as the Vice-Chair for the Metro Council Minority Caucus. Committees meet the first and third weeks of the month and are broadcast live on Metro TV (cable channel 25.) Councilman Kramer is also a member of the National League of Cities Information, Technology, and Communications Steering Committee and the Kentucky League of Cities Legislative Committee.
