Third Youth Opportunity Showcase will be held on Saturday, February 9

Employers to offer 1,000 jobs for teens, young adults

The third annual Youth Opportunity Showcase, which gives teens a chance to apply for jobs, as well as learn about volunteer and recreation opportunities, will be held on Saturday, February 9. This event will be held at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. 6th St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants and their parents or guardians may tour the Ali Center for free.

Young adults ages 16 to 21 can apply for hundreds of jobs with employers including Kentucky Kingdom, Kroger stores, Home Depot, Louisville Metro Government, Marriott Hotels and Norton Healthcare.

Some of the jobs are for the summer, but most of the jobs are for year-round work available for youth. Computer stations will be available for youth to apply for jobs. Career and college preparation resources will be available.

Young adults and teenagers interested in applying for jobs should dress for an interview, bring identification and have several copies of their resume. Parents of middle school students can pick up information about summer camps, and young teens can sign up to volunteer at the Louisville Science Center.

“Youth in this community have a great chance to build their resumes by working for some of the premier employers in Louisville,” said Michael Gritton, executive director of KentuckianaWorks. “These jobs are also great opportunities to learn on-the-job skills and focus on a possible future career.”

The Youth Opportunity Showcase is being coordinated by the Louisville Metro Office of Youth Development. It is sponsored in part by Kentuckiana Works, the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training and the Muhammad Ali Center. For more information about the Youth Opportunity Showcase contact MetroCall at 311 or visit www.louisvilleky.gov.

February 12 to April 30, 2008
7:00 – 9:30 p.m.

This Spring, the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) will offer the 3rd annual International Citizens Police Academy.

The purpose of the Citizens Academy is to educate the public about the police services delivered by the Louisville Metro Police Department, in order to foster understanding and community support for the department.  The Louisville Metro Police Department has prepared a comprehensive training program to provide Citizens Police Academy participants with an overview of the various divisions, units, and functions of the police department.

Why should International Leaders Attend

If we want our neighborhoods to be safe, we need to become active partners with the Louisville Metro Police. We can be an asset to the Police only when we are educated and informed. This program will allow international leaders to gain the necessary information to become true, effective partners to help the LMPD keep our neighborhoods safe.

Dates/Times

February 12 to April 30
Every Wednesday evening
7:00 pm – 9:30pm

Location

The Citizens Police Academy rotates the class location for each session so attendees will be familiar with LMPD facilities throughout the Louisville Metro area. Once accepted into the class, you will receive a class schedule with all locations noted.
