Neighborhood Association / Block Watch Initiatives Discussed at Mid Dale - Klondike Meeting

More than fifty residents attended a meeting on June 7 to discuss the formation of a block watch and neighborhood association for the Mid Dale-Klondike Lane area. Residents have expressed concern in the past few months over speeding, break-ins, and other safety concerns in the Mid Dale-Klondike corridor. Councilman Kramer addressed these concerns and reminded residents that police patrols have increased in the area. Kramer is also in communication with the owners of the apartment complexes along Mid Dale Lane regarding these concerns.

Sergeant Renea Briggs emphasized the importance of block watch programs in combatting crime and how the police department works with block watch programs. Walter Munday from the Department of Neighborhoods spoke about neighborhood associations (voluntary organizations which give neighborhoods a stronger, collective voice) and outlined the process of starting an association.

Mid Dale resident Clara Gruneisen stated, "the meeting was very informative, Sergeant Briggs was very informative and I appreciated the knowledge that she gave us. I feel that Walter Munday was very encouraging in talking about a neighborhood association. I do not want to move, I welcome people into our neighborhood and I just want our neighborhood to work and continue to be a great neighborhood."

Working groups for both the block watch and the neighborhood associations are currently being put together. There will be several planning meetings before both groups are formed, if you are interested in participating, please contact the District 11 Office at 574-1111. Special thanks to the Canaan Community Development Corporation for hosting the meeting.

District 11 NDF Funding will assist in Additional Grass Cuttings along Hurstbourne Parkway

In response to numerous calls and correspondence to the District 11 office, Councilman Kramer has decided to allocate funding for additional grass cuttings for the medians along Hurstbourne Parkway. Funding in the amount of $4,099.44 will be used from the District 11 Neighborhood Development Fund to pay for three additional cuttings of the Hurstbourne medians from Taylorsville Road to Watterson Trail (the area in District 11) in 2007. The State Department of Transportation cuts these areas four times per year, with the additional cuttings, that total will now increase to seven.
