Mid Dale - Klondike Residents Begin Work Towards Neighborhood Association

On Thursday, July 19, residents in the Mid Dale - Klondike area began the process to establish a voluntary neighborhood association in their area. Approximately fifteen residents met with Metro Dept. of Neighborhoods representative Walter Munday to start the process.
Neighborhood associations are comprised of individuals who work in maintaining an area's quality of life. Discussion at the meeting included potential boundaries for the association, officer positions and terms, listing of key issues and concerns, and follow up steps. The next scheduled meeting will be held on Thursday, August 23 at 7 pm in the St. Barnabas School Cafeteria (3044 Hikes Lane.) For more information, call the District 11 office at 574-1111 or Walter Munday in the Dept. of Neighborhoods at 574-2682.
Metro Council Approves Library Referendum, Kramer Discusses Position
(Message from Councilman Kramer)

At the July 26 meeting, the Metro Council approved a resolution to place a new tax to expand the county's library system on the November ballot. I want to take this opportunity to explain what happened last night in the discussion about the proposed library tax.
I continue to fully support funding the library master plan that was proposed to improve the library system. When the master plan was first proposed several years ago, the Metro Council sent a letter to the administration expressing our unanimous support. The idea of an occupational tax is a relatively new one. The Metro Council has been waiting for the administration, with the help of the director of libraries, to bring forward a method to fund this plan.
Unfortunately, the decision was made to push for a new tax without ever consulting the council for alternatives. The positive result of this is that there will be a very public debate about the method of funding the library plan. The debate isn't about libraries or the need to improve them, but instead only on how to pay for it.
I am continuing to ask the public to be mindful that taking a position against the tax is NOT taking a position against a better library system. Last night members of the Metro Council made it clear, again, that they support funding the Library Master Plan. An alternative has been proposed by Councilman Hal Heiner (District 19.) There is time between now and November for continued discussion about how to fund a plan that many will support. I am not convinced that a new tax is the only or the best solution. You can obtain a copy of this alternative plan by contacting our office or by clicking on this link: Library Plan

(Message Printed on behalf of E-ON US)

Want to better understand and control your electricity usage?
Louisville Gas and Electric Company residential and small commercial customers are encouraged to sign up for one of 2,000 spots in its new pilot program that helps customers do just that.
The “Responsive Pricing and Smart Meter Pilot Program” provides customers the latest technology to understand and control their electricity use. It also gives customers an opportunity to reduce their electricity bill by simply shifting a portion of their electricity use to times when overall consumption is typically lower.
To ensure accurate testing, customers in the pilot will receive various types of equipment designed to help customers control and reduce their electricity usage. One particular device is a portable Energy Usage display that looks similar to a digital clock, but allows the customer to see, in real time, their electricity usage and the approximate cost associated with it. With the new technology, customers can also control their thermostat from the internet or their BlackBerry®.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
(Printed on behalf of the American Cancer Society)

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. More than just the name of a walk, it describes the amazing progress to defeat this disease. This is your opportunity to join your community to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about early detection and prevention, and raise money to fund lifesaving research and to support programs to help us reach a day when no one will have to hear the words “You have breast cancer".
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is more than an event; it is a rallying cry to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. Since 1993, 67,000 walkers across the Kentuckiana area have collected more than $3.1 million to help fight breast cancer through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. This year, we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Waterfront Park on October 28, 2007. For more information visit their website here
