Mid Dale-Klondike Area Residents Continue Planning Process for Neighborhood Association

Mid Dale and Klondike area residents met on Thursday, August 23 to continue the planning process for an area neighborhood association. Approximately fifteen residents met with Walter Munday from the Department of Neighborhoods and Graham Honaker, representing Metro Councilman Kevin Kramer's office. Topics of discussion included:
  • Association boundaries
  • Officer terms
  • Bylaw discussion
  • Dues structure
  • Structure of the organization

Meghann Frederick, President of the Breckenridge Estates Neighborhood Association, addressed the group and answered questions about the BENA association. Breckenridge Estates boasts a membership of more than 500 members since forming their association in 2005.

The next meeting for this process will be held at the St. Barnabas School cafeteria on Thursday, September 20 at 7 pm.

MSD to Offer Drought Credit

The Louisville Metro area has suffered very dry conditions for much of the summer. Locally, rainfall totals are approximately seven inches below normal for the year. The National Weather Service has classified this drought period as severe.

Many residents have used additional water to irrigate lawns, gardens and trees. As a result MSD has reviewed residential sewer bills to determine the level of increase in water usage.

A portion of MSD sewer charges are based on volume of water used. Recognizing that not all water used goes into the sewer system, MSD applies a 15 percent discount on a monthly basis. However, MSD has determined that the current drought conditions have increased water usage significantly over seasonal periods during the past two years.

Therefore, the MSD Board has approved a board action that will provide an additional 10 percent discount to residential sewer customers whose July/August bills are at least 20 percent higher than the same months in 2006.

The discounts will be calculated and credited to customer billing this fall.

If you have questions regarding the drought credit, please contact:

Bud Schardein (Office) 540-6345
Rebecca Bennett (Office) 540-6552
Diane Secor (Office) 540-6402

Councilman Kramer and Canaan Community Development Corporation will Sponsor MetroWatch Computer Class for Area Leaders

Councilman Kramer along with the Canaan Community Development Corporation will sponsor a one-time class on using the MetroWatch program. This class will be held on Thursday, October 18 at 6:30 pm at Canaan Christian Church (2840 Hikes Lane.)

MetroWatch is a computer-based program through the Louisville Metro Police Department that allows citizens to log on to a computer and learn what crimes have occurred in their neighborhoods during the past 30 days. The class will run for approximately one hour and will cover the basic functions of the program. Our hope is that area leaders can take this information back to their neighbors so that they may learn how to use MetroWatch as well. More information on the MetroWatch program can be found at MetroWatch

We only have room for 15 participants in this class, space will be filled first-come, first-serve! You can RSVP for the class by calling the District 11 office at 574-1111 or replying to this email. If you cannot attend, you might consider sending someone representing your organization. Thanks!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
(Printed on behalf of the American Cancer Society)

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. More than just the name of a walk, it describes the amazing progress to defeat this disease. This is your opportunity to join your community to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about early detection and prevention, and raise money to fund lifesaving research and to support programs to help us reach a day when no one will have to hear the words “You have breast cancer".

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is more than an event; it is a rallying cry to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. Since 1993, 67,000 walkers across the Kentuckiana area have collected more than $3.1 million to help fight breast cancer through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. This year, we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Waterfront Park on October 28, 2007. For more information visit their website here
