Councilman Kramer and Canaan Community Development Corporation will Sponsor MetroWatch Computer Class for Area Leaders

Councilman Kramer along with the Canaan Community Development Corporation will sponsor a one-time class on using the MetroWatch program. This class will be held on Thursday, October 18 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Canaan Christian Church (2840 Hikes Lane.)
MetroWatch is a computer-based program through the Louisville Metro Police Department that allows citizens to log on to a computer and learn what crimes have occurred in their neighborhoods during the past 30 days. The class will run for approximately one hour and will cover the basic functions of the program. Our hope is that area leaders can take this information back to their neighbors so that they may learn how to use MetroWatch as well. More information on the MetroWatch program can be found at MetroWatch
We only have room for 15 participants in this class, space will be filled first-come, first-serve! You can RSVP for the class by calling the District 11 office at 574-1111 or replying to this email. If you cannot attend, you might consider sending someone representing your organization.
CitizenObserver Program: Make Your Neighborhood Your Own Again
CitizenObserver is an alert network that allows for instantaneous, proactive communication within the community. Citizen Alerts inform community members about crimes in their area and they will receive alerts and news that affects the safety of their family and friends. Police provide details on each case including complete descriptions and photos. Neighborhood Watch Group Alerts allow LMPD to send targeted alerts to specific neighborhoods with information about crimes that are happening in their immediate area.
CitizenObserver brings first responders, citizens, and businesses together in a Public Safety partnership. The need for first responders and communities to share accurate information with each other is critical. The instantaneous communication tools attract and engage the public as an essential partner in the matter of local and national public safety. To see these tools, go to the following link CitizenObserver and GET CONNECTED. Citizens are also encouraged to call the Crime Tip Line 574-LMPD (5673) for more information about CitizenObserver.

Governor Fletcher, Transportation Cabinet Officials Award $632,000 to Louisville Metro
Funding Provided for Traffic Signal Synchronization on Two Louisville Highways
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Louisville Metro Public Works Department will soon be working together to improve traffic flow on Shelbyville Road and Dixie Highway. Through a pilot project designed to test the methods for directly linking the Metro traffic signal system with area signals maintained by the Transportation Cabinet, the goal is for smoother, better-timed traffic flow in these two major highway corridors. The total cost of the pilot project is $790,000, with the Transportation Cabinet providing $632,000 and Louisville Metro providing $158,000. The project is expected to begin within the next few weeks.
This project would provide for radio central control of signals on Shelbyville Road and Dixie Highway to Louisville Metro’s central system in City Hall. In addition, new controllers will be installed at 50 intersections on the two corridors. Retiming and signal optimization services will also be performed.

District 11 Office and Legal Aid Society will Sponsor Will Clinic on November 10
Do you have a Will, Power of Attorney, or Living Will? These important legal documents allow you to state your wishes regarding medical or financial decisions should you become incapacitated. A Will directs the disposition of your property upon your death. If you are a low‑income senior or a person with a disability living on limited income, you may be eligible to have these documents prepared for you at no cost by the Legal Aid Society.
Legal Aid Society will conduct a Will Clinic on Saturday, November 10 from 9 am to 1 pm at Hunsinger Lane Baptist Church (3400 Summerfield Drive.) Eligible individuals can meet with an attorney, assisted by a paralegal or law student, and will review and sign these documents tailored to reflect their individual wishes. Clients walk away with documents in hand, usually within one hour. This service is provided at no cost to eligible individuals. If interested, please contact Andrea Robbins at Legal Aid Society at 614-3123 to determine whether you are eligible for this service and to reserve an appointment at the Will Clinic.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
(Printed on behalf of the American Cancer Society)

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. More than just the name of a walk, it describes the amazing progress to defeat this disease. This is your opportunity to join your community to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about early detection and prevention, and raise money to fund lifesaving research and to support programs to help us reach a day when no one will have to hear the words “You have breast cancer".
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is more than an event; it is a rallying cry to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. Since 1993, 67,000 walkers across the Kentuckiana area have collected more than $3.1 million to help fight breast cancer through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. This year, we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Waterfront Park on October 28, 2007. For more information visit their website here
