Metro Council Update - Elevated Street Sign Ordinance Approved

At the November 9 Metro Council meeting, the Metro Council approved an ordinance that will fund the installation of thirty-six elevated street signs along Hurstbourne Parkway. The elevated street signs will allow drivers to more easily identify cross streets along Hurstbourne Parkway.
In District 11, elevated street signs will be installed along Hurstbourne Parkway at Greene Way, Stony Brook Drive (2 signs), Six Mile Lane, South Watterson Trail, and Taylorsville Road.
Councilman Kramer (District 11), Councilman Glen Stuckel (District 17), Councilwoman Julie Adams (District 18), Councilman Stuart Benson (District 20), Councilman Robin Engel (District 22), and Councilman James Peden (District 23) sponsored the ordinance.
Hikes Point Beautification Project Takes Shape
The Hikes Point Business Association is teaming with the District 11 Office, the Metro Development Authority, the Nicklies Development Company, and Operation Brightside to plan a beautification project at "The Point", the intersection of Taylorsville Road, Hunsinger Lane, and Hikes Lane in Hikes Point.
This project will coincide with a new Starbucks Coffee House, which is currently being constructed in Hikes Point. Plans for the beautification project include the planting of a flower bed and the installation of a four-sided clock (see photo at right.) Improved sidewalks will also be constructed around this area. This project is expected to be completed by February 2007.
The Hikes Point Business Association is continuing to raise money for this project. Commenting on the project, HPBA President Debbie Williams said, "We are very excited about this beautification project and thrilled that the pulse of the Hikes Point business community will beat even faster now. The clock will be a great landmark for this area and we are very proud to be a part of this plan."
Anyone interested in joining the Hikes Point Business Association or working with the group on this project may contact President Debbie Williams at 458-3001.
