Louisville – September is a special time of year in District 13. Every year, more than 10,000 people come out for an event that showcases the community and its people. The 83rd Annual Fairdale Community Fair will once again usher in the fall season with fun on September 20th and September 21st.

“This event brings back that special time of the old fashioned County Fair when you could see the best in arts and crafts or ride a good old fashioned Ferris wheel,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) “The Fairdale Community Fair is one event where all ages can enjoy our community.”

The Fairdale Community Fair will get underway on Friday, September 20th from 5 to 11pm with displays, rides and entertainment. “There is Magic in the Fair” is this year’s theme. The Fairdale Community Club is sponsoring a Homemakers Contest in the gym of the Fairdale Playtorium where you can see the best of sewing, growing and arts/crafts on display. The Sweet Tooth Shop will also be open in the gym with Coffee & Sweet Treats. The Fairdale Lions Club will be serving their Famous Pig Sandwiches along with Fish Dinners at their location 10101 Mitchell Hill Road just next to the Fairdale Fire Station.

The Community Parade begins at Fairdale High School at 12:00pm Saturday September 21st. The route continues down Fairdale Road through the center of the Fairdale Village on to the Fair located at the Fairdale Elementary School and Fairdale Playtorium. As in years past, the parade is the highlight of the event with floats, bands, local dignitaries and much more. The Fair continues on Saturday right after the Parade on to 11pm.

Councilwoman Welch will have her own local government information booth along with other local and state officials. Just like her “Coffee with your Councilwoman” events, anyone can stop by to talk about an issue or concern or just say hello. Its informal and a great way to talk with your local representative for the Metro Council.

“The most important thing to remember is this is a weekend of community pride. So come out and meet old friends or make some new ones and help us celebrate our community,” says Welch. "I would like to thank Fairdale Fair Board, Fairdale Fire Dept., LMPD, Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Office and Jefferson Co. Attorney DUI Diversion Program for their efforts in planning, protection and cleanup to make this event possible.

**Please be advised that the Fairdale Senior Nutrition Center and the Fairdale County Clerk Office will be closed Thursday Sept. 19 and Friday Sept. 20. The Fairdale Area Community Ministries Office and District 13 Office will be closed Friday Sept. 20th. All of these closures are due to the activities of the fair using all of the space and parking lot within the Fairdale Playtorium where they are located.
