Biography
Julie Raque Adams was elected to serve on the first Louisville Metro Council in November 2002. The Louisville Legislative Council, or “Metro Council,” is the result of the recent consolidation of the former City of Louisville governing body and the Jefferson County Fiscal Court. Councilwoman Adams was elected to represent seven suburban cities and numerous neighborhoods, which fall within the boundaries of Eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Councilwoman Adams brings a tremendous amount of governmental experience to City Hall, previously serving as a staff member for U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in Washington, D.C. Councilwoman Adams continued her efforts in the legislative process and worked as a federal lobbyist for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in its Washington, D.C. office focusing on issues such as higher education, health, environment, and science and technology.
Adams then returned to her hometown of Louisville and began employment with Congresswoman Anne Northup (R-KY). Adams first served Northup in her district office, then moved over to Northup for Congress to serve as campaign manager in her first bid for re-election, and finished her tenure as press secretary in the Washington, D.C. office.
Councilwoman Adams serves on the Appropriations and Finance Committee and the Planning and Zoning Committee. She is also Vice-chair of the Republican caucus of the Louisville Metro Council. Since her election, Adams has been involved in many business and tax issues, as well as affordable housing, funding of non-profit agencies, and actively and successfully reducing the operating costs of local government.Councilwoman Adams was born and raised in Louisville. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN, and a Master of Arts degree from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
Active in the community, Adams attends St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and is a former board member for Father Maloney’s Boys’ Haven. Adams serves on the Board for Project Women and was recently appointed to the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee. In addition, Adams was appointed to the American Council of Young Political Leaders based in Washington, D.C.
Julie is married to James Adams and is the mother of two sons.
