Brent T. Ackerson was elected as the 26th District Councilman in November, 2008. He took the Oath of Office from Circuit Judge James Shake on January 5, 2009. Brent represents neighborhoods in the old City of Louisville and several areas of unincorporated Jefferson County. Among these are Avondale, Bon Air, Bon Air Estates, Breckenridge Estates, Broadfields, Brookhaven, Buechel, Churchill Park, Highgate Springs, Hikes Point, Klondike, Kort Springs, Melbourne Heights, Mid Dale Estates, Montclair, Plymouth Village, Springlee, and The Springs. Brent also represents the cities of Meadowview Estates and Norbourne Estates as well as part of the City of Saint Matthews.
In 2012, he was appointed Chair of the Public Works, Bridges and Transportation Committee. He serves as Vice Chair of Government Accountability and Ethics and is a member of the Budget Committee and the Planning and Zoning Committee. He has also served as Chair of the Energy and Environment Committee, a member of the Appropriations Committee, a member of the Parks, Libraries, and Zoo Committee, and a member of the Ad Hoc Ethics Committee.
Brent is a native Louisvillian. While in high school, he was recognized as a Kentucky Governor’s Scholar. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Louisville where he was the recipient of the Louis C. Kesselman Award for Outstanding Service to the Political Science Department. Brent is a graduate of the University Of Akron College Of Law. As a law school student, he served as Class Representative to the Student Bar Association and was the regional winner of the American Bar Association’s Negotiations Competition.
Brent began his practice of law as a Clerk for the Summit County (OH) Court of Common Pleas. His first jury trial was with the City of Akron Public Defenders Office. He presently practices with the Ackerson Law Offices where he focuses on Business and Employment matters; Wills, Trusts, and Probate matters; and Personal Injury matters. In 2011, Brent was the recipient of the Gary Gupton Community Award for his part in helping to complete the new Down Syndrome of Louisville facility - the only facility of its kind in the United States which cares for the needs of individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.
Brent and his wife Tammy have been married for thirteen years. They have a son and a daughter who attend Dunn Elementary School, and are residents of Browns Lane.
