Mayor Jerry Abramson, Councilman David Tandy (D) 4, along with Metro Council President Jim King (D) 10 will welcome participants of the third annual Louisville Metro Youth Leaders Program at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26th in the Mayor's Gallery, 527 W. Jefferson Street.
Two students from each of Louisville's high schools will have an opportunity to learn more about how Louisville Metro functions and create a Youth Agenda for our community. The program is an extension of the KY YMCA-Youth Association, and includes four sessions, concluding in April.
The program was created by Tandy and Councilman Stuart Benson (R) 20 in 2006. Its mission is to educate and engage teens on the issues facing Louisville Metro, through interaction with community leaders and other high school students.
“Once again, we have a chance to show students how to be a part of local government and become future leaders,” says Tandy. “For the past two years, we have shown students a way to get involved in their community.”
The program is offered to sophomores and juniors at all Jefferson County Public and Private High Schools. Students must be nominated by their respective Guidance Counselors. For more information please visit, www.kyymca.org.
