When volunteers fan out across Metro Louisville for Brightside’s Spring Clean up on Saturday, March 29th, District 13 will have a good turn out of community help.
“I am so proud that the people of District 13 are making the effort to make our community a clean and safe place to live, “says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D) 13. “It should be a fun and busy Saturday.”
There are at least four specific areas in District 13 where volunteers will be collecting trash and cleaning up litter on Friday and Saturday.
The Fairdale Community School will coordinate a clean-up on Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The group will target the area from Fairdale High School at 1001 Fairdale Road to Neighborhood Place at 1010 Neighborhood Place. They will also work along National Turnpike.
The Scottsdale Neighborhood Association has organized a clean up on Saturday, March 29th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. There is no starting point. Each worker will pick-up a certain area and will put the trash they pick-up in their own garbage can.
The children of Lassiter Middle School are partnering with Candlelight Neighborhood Association to clean the Candlelight Neighborhood. This is organized by Dwayne Roberts, Principal of Lassiter and Bobby Sewell, President of Candlelight Neighborhood Association.
Some 100 people are expected for the clean up.
Spring cleaning actually began last weekend in the district. Janice Ray of Lonesome Hollow Trail organized a group to clean along Blevins Gap Road in the area of the Penile Baptist Church. In 2007, this group was responsible for retrieving 100 tires, refrigerators and old metal that had been dumped over the years.
They also collected over 100 bags of trash and litter.
“Many people of District 13 have committed their time to spruce up our community for the Spring Brightside Clean-Up,” says Welch. “I would like to encourage others who live in these areas to come out and join in this effort of community pride!”
