In August, a summer tradition returns with the District 5 Friday Night Family Film Festival at Shawnee Park. Three first run features will bring back the feel of the drive in and the chance to enjoy a summer’s night under the stars.

“I am pleased to sponsor this event for a third year,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D) 5. “In years past, many families have enjoyed the chance to get out and have some fun together at Shawnee Park.”

Here is the list of films for the 2008 Friday Night Family Film Festival:

Friday, August 1st - "The Great Debaters"

Friday, August 8th - "Shrek the Third"

Friday, August 15th - "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns”

Admission is free and free popcorn will be available. The movies will be shown at the Shawnee Park Sports Complex beginning at dusk. In the event of rain, the movies will be shown at the Shawnee Golf Course Clubhouse on the same dates. The Clubhouse is located at 460 Northwestern Parkway.

“You can bring a lawn chair or a blanket and then sit back in a nice surrounding and have some fun,” says Hamilton. “This is a chance to enjoy the last bit of summer before people get back to busy school schedules.”

There will be concessions available and all proceeds raised will benefit West Louisville Sports.
