Dirt Bowl wraps up tournament play this weekend in Shawnee Park

The final weekend of tournament play will wrap up the return of the Dirt Bowl to Shawnee Park this Saturday, August 8th.
“The Dirt Bowl has been a success in Shawnee Park,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). “Its organizers and supporters have done a great job of bringing back a sporting tradition to this area.”
Four open division quarterfinal games will be played on Saturday, August 8th starting at 4:30pm. Youth championship games will start around 2:30pm on Sunday, August 9th Followed by Open Division semi-final games beginning at 4:00pm.
The Final Championship game will be held at 7:30pm.
The Dirt Bowl Tournament will feature a 3 point shooting contest and a dunking contest as part of the closing weekend.
“Back in 1968, the Dirt Bowl was organized as a positive way to bring young people and others together in the spirit of competition,” says Hamilton. “This summer, we have seen a return to that same spirit which has spread throughout Shawnee Park.”
