Fifth District Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton and Sixth District Councilman George Unseld will take part in the unveiling of the sign renaming a portion of Tenth Street as ‘Walter Barnes Way.’ The ceremony will begin at noon on Monday at the corner of Tenth and Chestnut streets.

Barnes, who’ll also take part in the ceremony, served as executive director for the Tenth Street YMCA for 43 years. The former Board of Aldermen passed an ordinance last year renaming the street from Chestnut to Magazine streets in his honor. The newly renamed street runs alongside the YMCA building.
