District 23 Councilman James Peden is working with Congresswoman Anne Northup’s office to obtain federal funding to widen Mount Washington, Cedar Creek and Beulah Church roads.
The stretch of Mount Washington Road where a school bus accident occurred today is part of the request.
“These are narrow roads that have seen an enormous increase in traffic,” Peden said. “You can’t relocate 1,000 people from the airport area to Heritage Creek without creating a dangerous situation. We are working diligently with Congresswoman Northup’s office to make the area safer.”
Peden held an initial meeting Feb. 11 with Northup’s office to discuss the issue and turned in the application on March 13. Northup then submitted the request to the U.S. House Transportation Committee.
