Louisville Metro Councilwoman Madonna Flood will join members of local non-profit groups and individuals for an Okolona spring clean-up from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday. Volunteers will meet in the north parking lot of Southern High School, 8620 Preston Highway. (In the event of rain, the clean-up will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.)
The clean-up will also serve as a fundraising opportunity for local non-profit groups. The organization with the most volunteers will be awarded $750 for first place, with second place and third place teams earning $500 and $300, respectively. Councilwoman Flood funded the awards with an appropriation from the 24th District Neighborhood Development Funds.
"After a long winter our streetscapes are starting to look shabby," said Flood, D-24. "This gives us the opportunity to spruce up the neighborhood while earning money for good causes."
Groups wishing to compete for prizes must be at Southern High School by 9:30 a.m. Saturday to register. The clean-up will conclude at noon with a cookout at the high school.
Interested parties can call Councilwoman Flood's office at 574-1124 for more information.
