Councilman Hal Heiner, R-19, is having a public meeting at 7 p.m. June 7 at the Eastwood Fire Department to discuss designating several roads as scenic corridors.
Eastwood Fire Department is located at 16010 Shelbyville Road.
Metro Planning and Design will give a presentation on scenic corridors, which help preserve the rural character of the area through several requirements, including: 1) In an R-4 zone, new subdivisions must be setback 30 feet from the road, but in a scenic corridor, that amount increases to 50 feet, and first 30 feet must be heavily landscaped and include an increased amount of trees; 2) Fencing for new subdivisions within the 30-foot buffer area cannot be chain link; and 3) Road construction requires extra protection for trees near the right of way.
The following roads in District 19 are being considered for scenic corridor designation: Aiken Road east of Floyds Fork Special District (FFSD); Clark Station Road; Eastwood Fisherville Road south of Eastwood Cut Off Road; Flat Rock Road; Johnson Road north of FFSD; Long Run Road; Pope Dale Road; Poplar Lane; Rehl Road; South Beckley Station Road north of FFSD; South English Station Road south of I-61 to FFSD; and South Pope Lick Road.
