Councilman Dan Johnson has asked the members of the Kentucky Public Service Commission to hold at least one hearing in Louisville on a proposed rate increase sought by the Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities.
In a letter to the PSC, Johnson, D-21, noted that the majority of people who will be impacted by the rate increase live in the Louisville Metro area and that "the impact will be most severely felt by people who are least able to attend hearings in Frankfort, senior citizens and working families."
"It is important that people who exist on a tight budget and sometimes have to choose between providing food for their families and keeping the electric on have an opportunity to be heard on this critical issue," Johnson wrote. "Please give them an opportunity to be heard."
The PSC held a hearing in Frankfort last week. The agency may have a decision on the increase by the end of June.
