Louisville Metro Councilwoman Julie Raque Adams, R-18, has been appointed to serve on the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee.

The committee provides advice and recommendations to assist the EPA. Its top priority is to promote a stronger partnership with local governments to increase their capabilities to deliver local environmental services and programs.

“This appointment is a great opportunity,” Adams said. “Louisville has many challenges with air quality. Greater communication with the EPA and access to finding out what other cities are doing will be beneficial to our community.”

“We must find a way to improve our air quality - it’s important to our families and for our economic development.”

Adams will be one of 35 members from across the country. Membership includes elected and appointed local and state officials, environmental and other interest groups, and labor representatives.

Adams will attend her first meeting May 18 in Kansas City.
