District 18 Councilwoman Julie Raque Adams and District 26 Councilwoman Ellen Call will hold a wellness fair for their districts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 at St. Matthews Baptist Church.
Mammograms will be available for women age 40 and over. Insurance will be filed for women with coverage, while mammograms will be free for income-eligible women without insurance. The James Graham Brown Cancer Center will conduct the screenings at various sites throughout the community.
“Mammograms are the most reliable breast screening tool used today,” Call said. “Annual mammograms can help detect a tumor while it is small and easier to treat, which greatly increases a woman’s chance of survival.”
In addition, the health fair will include: flu shots for $20; pneumonia shots for $25; stroke screening/carotid artery for $45; abdominal aortic aneurysm screenings for $45; and peripheral arterial disease screenings for $45.
“This health fair will emphasize preventive steps that we can take to stay healthy and detect any problems before they become serious,” Adams said. “Taking time for our health is the best thing we can do for ourselves and for our families.”
Some tests require appointments. Please call 574-1118 or 574-1126 for additional information.
