Fifteenth District Councilman George Melton canceled the Community Affairs committee meeting originally scheduled for 3 p.m. today, after the sponsor of a resolution to rename the Jefferson Memorial Forest for the late President Reagan pulled his sponsorship, effectively leaving the item to die in committee.
"I'm pleased that the forest will remain dedicated to the thousands of veterans who have given their service to our community," said Councilman Ron Weston, D-13, whose district includes the bulk of the forest.
At nearly 5,600 acres, Jefferson Memorial Forest is the largest publicly owned green space in the country.
The resolution had been the only item on today's committee agenda.
