Councilman George Unseld today announced that the first meeting of the recently formed Committee for a Safe and Healthy Community will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, in the third floor Caucus Room of City Hall, 601 W. Jefferson St.
The meeting will include a discussion of guidelines, process and applications for groups and agencies seeking funds. During budget hearings in June, the Metro Council heard testimony from various agencies and citizens about problems in the community, many of them centered around youth and health issues. The Council added $368,000 to create a youth, education, crime and health initiative.
In addition to Councilman Unseld, D-6, other committee members include Barbara Shanklin, D-2; Ken Fleming, R-7; George Melton, D-15; and Glen Stuckel, R-17.
