Councilman Henderson to honor retired army officers

Councilman Bob Henderson will join a group of retired army officers tomorrow for the 54th Commissioning Reunion of the 29th Officer Candidate Class, commissioned at Ft. Riley, Kansas May 5, 1951.
Henderson, D-14, will present Certificates of Honor and Appreciation at a breakfast honoring the officers at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2735 Crittenden Dr.
The men, veterans of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, have more than 250 combined years of service to our country.
One of the officers, Norman Widmer, lives in the 14th District. The other officers are attending the ceremony from Florida, Colorado, Indiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia and Missouri.
Of the 103 officers commissioned, 45 are still known to be living.
