Free tethered balloon rides, music in the park, arts and crafts booths, sports tournaments and fireworks will highlight this year's Newburg Festival, which begins Friday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. and runs through Sunday evening. The festival will take place at Petersburg Park, at the corner of Indian Trail and Exeter Avenue.
Festivities continue at 8 a.m. Saturday with the Community Breakfast, which is free and open to the public, at Newburg Middle School, 4901 Exeter Ave., according to Second District Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin, a sponsor and organizer of the event. Other Saturday events include a community parade following the breakfast; tennis and basketball tournaments; live musical performances; free hot air balloon rides and informational and arts and crafts booths.
The festival wraps up on Sunday with a senior citizen's luncheon from 2-4 p.m. at Peace Presbyterian Church, 4210 E. Indian Trail. Gospel groups and liturgical dancers will perform throughout the day at the park, followed by the Music in the Metro concert featuring local artist Tanita Gaines from 5-7 p.m. The Kentucky State University Choir will perform from 7-9 p.m.
The festival ends with a bang at 9 p.m. Sunday, capped off with a fireworks display by Zambelli Fireworks.
