Councilman Tom Owen will join Rep. Mary Lou Marzian in sponsoring an 8th District breast cancer screening event for women 40 years of age and over. The screening will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at the Douglass Boulevard Community Center, 2005 Douglass Blvd.

The mammograms will be provided free to income eligible women without insurance. Women with insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, will have their agency billed.

Women are encouraged to call Councilman Owen's office at 574-1108 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will be honored first.

Mammograms can detect cancer up to two years before a lump can be felt, and more than 97 percent of women whose breast cancer is found and treated early with no spreading beyond the breast, will survive.
