The 2008 Newburg Festival will kick off a weekend of events on August 22nd with a search for the most talented people in the Metro Louisville.
“National TV talent programs gave us the idea for something special this year,” says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2). “We know there are some very talented people in the area so we want to look for Louisville’s own Newburg Idol.”
On Friday night, “Newburg Idol” will present local amateur talent in the age range from 16 to 25. There will be judges and a $300 grand prize.
“I think this will be a fun and entertaining way to kick off the Festival,” says Shanklin.
Those who are interested should call 574-1102 and register on August 18 through August 19th. No professionals will be allowed to sign up for the competition which will get underway at 7:00pm and end at 9:00pm. The talent contest will be held on the main stage at Petersburg Park.
The Newburg Festival will carry on through the weekend with a traditional Community Breakfast and Parade on Saturday, August 23rd. The breakfast will be held at Newburg Middle School from 8:00am until 10:00am.
The Community Parade will begin lining up in the parking lot of the Forest Tabernacle Baptist Church, 4205 East Indian Trail. The parade is tentatively set to begin at 12:00pm. Events in Petersburg Park begin at 11am -- there will be live entertainment throughout the day.
The Festival will wrap up on Sunday with a Gospel Concert from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and then fire works at dusk.
