It is known as America’s Night out Against Crime. Southwest Jefferson County residents will once again have the chance to learn how to fight crime on Tuesday, August 5th.

“Once again, the Louisville Metro Police Third Division is hosting a National Night Out event that will encourage many neighborhoods to work with LMPD to fight crime along Dixie Highway,” says Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12).

National Night Out will be at the Caritas Mall at Dixie Manor Shopping Center from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. It will be hosted by LMPD, St. Mary’s Elizabeth Hospital/ Jewish Hospital Medical Center Southwest and sponsored by Target.

Blackwell and Council members Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) and Bob Henderson (D-14) are also sponsors of the event.

“In years past, these events have provided great information on how you can assit our Metro Police fight crime,” says Councilman Bob Henderson (D) 14.

The event will feature crime prevention information as well as the chance to talk with officers and members of the Third Division Police Advisory Board. There will be recruitment information available to join the LMPD, the bomb unit robot and a meth booth.

Officials with Metro Animal Services will be available with information and a SNIP clinic will be on display.

In addition to National Night Out, the community will also have a chance to get healthy through a health fair with several health care providers and the Louisville Red Cross. The Red Cross will also hold a blood drive during the event.

“This is the first time a health fair has been offered for such an important event to our community,” says Welch. “The blood drive is critical at this time of year when blood donors are needed. If you can, I would encourage everyone to come out and donate.”

Children’s activities will be available both inside and outside the Caritas Mall. Free food and drinks along with door prizes and giveaway.
