It is a traditional festival which shines a spotlight on Southwest Jefferson County. Thousands are expected to turn out for the 22nd Annual Southwest Community Festival on Saturday, October 10th.
“The organizers of this event have once again planned something for everyone,” says Councilman Bob Henderson (D-14). “This is a true celebration of community and I always look forward to it.”
The Festival will get underway at Sun Valley Park, 6505 Bethany lane beginning at 9:00am. It will run until 5:00pm. The day will feature a car and motorcycle show, Kid City, arts & crafts, food booths, Toddler Town, a senior tent and medieval re-enactments.
“It is just a fun day,” says Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12). “I and other Council members will be on hand to talk with people and just take the time to enjoy a nice fall weekend.”
While the Festival is fun, there is an opportunity to help an organization that is in the business of helping those in need. At 8:00am, on Saturday morning, Southwest Community Ministries will host their Pancake Breakfast.
“With the recent bad weather and flooding along with the economy, more people have come to rely on Southwest communities Ministries for help,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13). “Aside from tasting great pancakes, this is one way to help the Ministries.”
Proceeds from the breakfast will help fund programs and relief effort by the group.
There will also be a free shuttle service to the car show and other festival events provided by the Highview Baptist Church and the South Jefferson Christian Church.
