Louisville – Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) has been appointed by Metro Council President Jim King to fill the Council’s designated ex officio position on the Board of the Louisville Arena Authority. She will serve on the Board during calendar year 2014.

In late 2013, President King was appointed by Governor Steve Beshear to serve as a full member of the Arena Board resulting in the open ex officio position.

“I would like to thank President King for the opportunity to serve on the Louisville Arena Authority this year,” said Hamilton. “I look forward to working with the other members to ensure the arena’s profitability while keeping an eye out on behalf of taxpayers.”

In making the appointment, President King noted her experience on the Metro Council as a Budget Committee member and Appropriations Committee Chair and her 11 years of service on the Council. Hamilton served on the Council’s Budget Committee when the Memorandum of Agreement between the Arena Authority and Metro Government was approved by the Council.

President King said “I’m indebted to Councilwoman Hamilton for her spirit of public service. The Arena has transformed downtown Louisville into a destination for our residents as well as tourists. We continue to watch Arena activities and its financial performance closely and Councilwoman Hamilton has the perspective and skills necessary to make a significant contribution to that effort. We anticipate 2014 to be a watershed year for the Arena’s tax increment financing (TIF) district as it continues to improve the Arena’s debt service coverage. Councilwoman Hamilton’s understanding of the TIF and its impact on the Arena will be invaluable during 2014.”
