Latest Update
On October 27, 2011, the Louisville Metro Council adopted Ordinance No. 236, Series 2011. This ordinance reapportions and redistricts the 26 districts of the Louisville/ Jefferson County Metro Council. It sets new boundaries for these districts. The Mayor signed the ordinance on October 28,2011. This ordinance takes effect on November 9, 2011. Pursuant to KRS 67C.135(9), any Jefferson County registered voter may bring an action in Circuit Court to challenge the redistricting ordinance as not following the provisions of KRS 67C.135. Any such action must be brought within twenty (20) days of the new districts being established. The districts are established as of the effective date of the ordinance: November 9.

See the latest maps of the proposed Metro Council Districts
Every ten years, local governments must redraw respective district boundary lines for better representation of population based on the US Census data. The Louisville Metro Council has begun its review of the 2010 Census data with the creation of two redistricting committees.
The population of each district must be as nearly equal as reasonably possible. The districts must be compact and contiguous. Whenever possible, the districts shall respect existing neighborhood, community, and city boundaries. In addition, the districts must meet the standards of the U.S. Constitution and the federal Voting Rights Act.

Commission to Reapportion Jefferson County into Three Districts
The Commission finished its work and issued its Final Report on July 18, 2011. Pursuant to its mandate, the commission proposed a map setting out three new County Commissioner districts.
