Concerts Showcase Louisville Music & Parks
Wednesday July 12, 2006
Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced a lineup of free concerts in parks across Louisville throughout the summer and early fall. In its fourth year, the “Music in the Metro” concert series showcases local musical talent in a different public park each Sunday from July 16 through October 1.
The series will kick off this Sunday at Des Pres Park, featuring Karen Kraft & Kiks. Events will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The feature concert begins at 5:30 p.m.
“Our Music in the Metro series continues to grow in popularity,” Abramson said. “These concerts are a chance to bring friends, neighbors and families together to enjoy great local music in a beautiful park."
The Metro Parks FestiVan will provide family-friendly games and activities beginning at 4:30 p.m., and during the band’s break. Audience-participation events will energize and mobilize young concert-goers as part of the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement.
Food and refreshment vendors will sell festival fare and families are welcome to bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs. The concerts will feature a wide variety of musical genres and groups, from country to jazz and soul to rock ‘n’ roll. Sponsor Cox Radio will promote the series on Oldies 103.1 WRKA, 107.7 WSFR and New Country 103.9.
In addition, the concerts are re-broadcast on Louisville MetroTV, cable channel 25.
