METRO PARKS HOSTS ‘MUSIC IN MOTION’ FAMILY MUSIC APPRECIATION PROGRAM ON NOV. 16
LOUISVILLE (November 11, 2004) – Children and parents can learn the basics of music during Music in Motion - an interactive Metro Parks program promoting music appreciation. The performance takes place on Tuesday, November 16, at 6 p.m. in the Kentucky Theater, 651 South Fourth Street. Admission is $5 per person, with proceeds benefiting Metro Parks outreach programs.
“Music in Motion exposes children to the arts and encourages them to stay involved in music and dance throughout their lives,” said Terry Wooden, outreach manager for Metro Parks. “In addition to some great local performers, we’ll also invite participants to see and touch musical instruments, answer trivia questions, and borrow books about music from the Louisville Free Public Library.”
Popular Louisville singer/songwriter John Gage will emcee the performance, in addition to leading the audience in singing some well-known favorites. He’ll be joined on stage by a Vietnamese traditional folk music duet, police officer/rapper Sir Friendly C, a Middle Eastern dance troupe that’s housed at Beechmont Community Center, Young Masters of the Violin, Connie’s School of Performing Arts, and more. Several groups of children will also perform their own works of poetry, dance and rap.
During Music in Motion, participants can also enjoy games, trivia, face painting and demonstrations of musical instruments. The library will offer on-site library card registration in addition to loaning books about music to current library patrons.
