MARY T. MEAGHER AQUATIC CENTER’S MAIN POOL CLOSES AUG. 20 – SEPT. 5 FOR IMPROVEMENTS
Swimming available at nearby Breslin Pool
LOUISVILLE (August 17, 2005) – The Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center’s Olympic pool will temporarily close for a new paint job on August 20. The pool will re-open on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 5 a.m. During the closure, the facility’s weight room and therapy pool will be open for limited hours, and Breslin Pool, a nearby outdoor facility, will be open to accommodate aquatic center users.
The Olympic pool has not been painted since Metro Parks began operating the aquatic center in 1998. During the closure, Metro Parks will drain the pool, apply new paint, allow time for the surfaces to completely dry, re-install a bulkhead, then fill the pool and treat the water.
During the work period, the weight room and therapy pool will be open on Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., although the entire facility will be closed during the three-day Labor Day weekend (Sept. 3-5). If paint fumes become excessive, Metro Parks may be forced to temporarily close these areas. Call 502/897-9949 to check the status of the weight room and therapy pool.
Daily fees at Breslin Pool, located at the intersection of Lexington Road and Payne Street, are $2 for adults, and $1.50 for children age 17 and under. Lap swimming will be available on weekdays from 7 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The pool will be open for recreational swimming on weekdays from 4 to 8 p.m. (shallow areas only after 6 p.m.), and on weekends and Labor Day from noon to 6 p.m. Patrons with current Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center memberships can use Breslin Pool at no charge, and their memberships will be extended for an additional two weeks.
The Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center is located at 201 Reservoir Road, in Crescent Hill Park. The facility features an Olympic pool that offers lap swimming, water exercise and swim lessons; a therapy pool; and a weight room with Cybex, free weight and cardio equipment. Regular hours are Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Call 502/897-9949 for information.
