Aquatic Center's Olympic pool remains closed
Monday April 3, 2006
Fitness center and therapy pool are open
Metro Parks workers performing maintenance at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center
discovered a loss of water on Sunday, requiring the facility's Olympic pool to remain closed until repairs can be made. The center's therapy pool and fitness center are open this week according to their regular schedule.
"We are working with a contractor to determine the exact scope of the problem, but it looks like the Olympic pool will be closed for most, if not all, of spring break," said Jason Cissell, spokesman for Metro Parks. "We're trying to get the main pool open as soon as possible." Metro Parks will provide updates on the Olympic pool's status online at www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/recreation/aquaticcenter.htm
and through a recorded message at (502) 897-9949.
Metro Parks drains the pools in the aquatic center twice annually to clean the pool lining and associated pumps. The pools are then refilled with fresh water. After refilling the Olympic pool on Saturday, workers returned to the facility on Sunday to complete the process when they noticed that the water level had dropped three feet overnight.
Regular hours for the fitness center are Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The therapy pool is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
The Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center is located at 201 Reservoir Road in Crescent Hill Park. The facility features an Olympic pool that offers lap swimming, water exercise and swim lessons; a therapy pool; and a fitness center with Cybex, free weight and cardio equipment.
