Metro Parks, UPS Team Up for Global Volunteer Challenge

Monday October 23, 2006

UPS employees volunteered their time and skills to Metro Parks in an effort to improve trails and facilities at Otter Creek, paint fencing at Stansbury Park, and complete several painting projects at Sun Valley Community Center during the week of October 14-22, 2006.  The projects were part of the UPS Third Annual Global Volunteer Challenge Week and provided an estimated $5,000 in aid to local parks.

“UPS adopted three of the six projects submitted for consideration by Metro Parks.  We feel very fortunate to have this level of response from UPS,” said Laura Ryan, Metro Parks Volunteer Coordinator.

Approximately 20 volunteers prepped and painted the tennis and basketball court fencing at Stansbury Park -- an effort that was initiated on Sept. 21, 2006, by Metro Parks, Hands on Louisville and Home Depot.  Home Depot donated $800 in supplies in September for this endeavor.

At Otter Creek Park, 20 volunteers worked to reroute a trail from a low-lying spot to a higher location along a hillside.  A third project at Sun Valley Community Center involved approximately 20 volunteers in general cleanup and interior painting projects.

UPS received volunteer requests from organizations throughout Louisville, and local UPS employees chose their own projects.   More than 20,000 UPS employees in 45 countries donated approximately 100,000 hours of service to their local communities during this year’s Global Volunteer Challenge Week.

UPS is the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain services, offering an extensive range of options for synchronizing the movement of goods, information and funds. For more information, visit www.ups.com.
