Memorial Day Ceremony at Patriots Peace Memorial
Tuesday May 22, 2007
Veterans and their families will gather at noon on May 28, 2007, to honor members of the armed forces who lost their lives in the line of duty under conditions other than those of hostile action. The families of two such veterans will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony that’s held annually on Memorial Day. Two glass bricks, which will be installed in the monument’s wall to memorialize these two veterans, will be unveiled.
The Patriots Peace Memorial honors the sons and daughters of our region who gave their lives in the cause of freedom during times of peace. It was dedicated in 2002, on land donated by David and Betty Jones along River Road, west of Indian Hills Trail and across from Carrie Gaulbert Cox Park. Since it was created, 424 patriots have been enshrined in the memorial. The memorial’s web site – www.patriotspeacememorial.org – contains information about the memorial and contact information for those wishing to nominate a veteran for enshrinement.
