Two events featuring some of the best local entertainment Louisville has to offer will take place at the historic Iroquois Amphitheater on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30.
On March 29, the 2008 Metro Parks Youth Extravaganza Dance Competition hits the stage at the Amphitheater, with 15 local groups vying to be crowned the city’s best. Visitors will witness the best in urban dance while cheering on their favorite church, school, or community center. The event begins at 2 p.m., and concessions will be available for sale at the Amphitheater.
“This is our fourth year, and each year we’ve seen the enthusiasm and level of community-wide interest increase for the Youth Extravaganza,” said Anthony Williams, recreation administrator for Metro Parks. “It’s an event that Louisville embraces, and it should be another exciting year.”
On Sunday, March 30, the inaugural Metro Parks Community Showcase begins at 2 p.m. at the Amphitheater. The event features music, singing and dancing from some of Louisville’s most noted talent groups.
Performances will include the University of Louisville Community Band, Gillman’s School of Dance, The Rockerettes, Ann Robinson-Burks, Step-n-Out Dance Studio, Folsom Academy of the Arts and Jennifer’s Academy of Dance.
“The community will see a wonderful array of performing arts on March 30,” said Audrey Sprung, arts and culture manager for Metro Parks. “We tried to incorporate as much variety as we could in our first year so the event can grow.”
Tickets for the Community Showcase are already on sale at www.ticketmaster.com for $4 each. Tickets may also be purchased at the Iroquois Amphitheater on the day of the event for $5.
Advanced tickets will be on sale through Ticketmaster for the Youth Extravaganza, beginning on March 18. The prices for that event are $5 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Prices will be the same on the day of the event.
